Julia Deane: Graduate of the University of Delaware, Founder, Culinary Works, Resident Chef, Kitchens By Deane, wife of Peter and mother to Brooke, Mac, and Griffin.

I began my culinary career as a young child baking in the kitchen with my Mother and brothers. Finally, at the ambitious age of ten, I was given the freedom to bake cakes and pies all on my own. Although it took me ten years to advance from pies and cakes, I began experimenting with various foods and cooking techniques after college passed and family life commenced.

Upon marriage at 24, I became very comfortable with the art of entertainment and the value of a home cooked meal. Before children and domesticated living took hold, I followed my curiosity once again and enrolled in the culinary program at Norwalk Community College.
While at Norwalk, I was fortunate to have studied under French based, certified master Chef, Edward Leonard, CMC, AAC (As a true French chef, he taught me the importance of properly seasoning food, and about the importance of using food that's currently in season). My enriching experience under Master Leonard spurned my thirst for greater knowledge Master Leonard spurned my thirst for greater knowledge across the culinary spectrum. I have since enjoyed studies in Northern Italy at the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners as well as recreational schools in New York, New Orleans, and New Mexico to come.

From my initial pies and cakes to hosting my own class of twenty, the dim light of my ten year old curiosity has grown into a passion and ongoing quest for culinary knowledge. One of the many beauties of cooking and culinary work is the light never stops glowing as one can never stop learning.

With my strong passion for cooking and teaching, I believe the best method of learning is through practical experience in the kitchen. I truly enjoy helping other people learn how to become better cooks for themselves and for their loved ones. It makes for a happier and healthier table full of guests. There is something to be said for coming together, cooking and sitting down to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
